Adjustment of Feed Touch Pressure in Strapack SQ-800

1.Feeding Mechanism

Check the following when the strap is not loaded.

When not feeding → SOL3 is on. At this time, the gap between Feed Upper Roller and FR Roller is about 1 to 1.5mm.
When feeding → SOL3 is off. At this time, Feed Upper Roller and FR Roller are in contact due to the pressure from the feed spring.

2.Adjustment of Feed Upper Roller play

Loosen the 2 fixing bolts for sol3, move it up or down with the plunger pushed in and adjust. Play should be about 1 to 1.5mm. 

a. To reduce: Move SOL3 down.
b. To increase: Move SOL3 up.

3.When the above adjustment is needed

Symptoms: Feed Upper Roller doesn't open enough which prevents smooth reversing. Frequent incomplete reversing when the machine is cycled continuously.

Countermeasure: Increase the play.

4. Adjustment of Feed Touch Pressure

To increase: Loosen the lock nut of Feed Spring Adjuster and turn it counterclockwise and pull it up. (i.e. Pull up the Feed Spring.)
                     If the pressure is not strong enough even when the spring is pulled up all the way, replace the spring with a stronger one.

To decrease: Loosen the lock nut of Feed Spring Adjuster and turn it clockwise and tighten it. (i.e. Loosen the Feed Spring).
                      If the touch pressure is still too strong and the strap comes out of the arch flap after this adjustment, replace the spring with a weaker one.

5.When the above adjustment is needed

Symptoms: Strap comes out of the arch when the machine cycled continuously.
                    Or, due to camber or deformed strap, the feeding is unstable.
Countermeasure: Increase the Feed Touch Pressure.

Symptoms: When the strap was switched from wider or thicker strap to narrower or thinner strap, strap started coming out of the arch flaps.
Countermeasure: Reduce the feed touch pressure.

6.Caution when replacing the SOL3

When fixing Feed Solenoid Assembly and FR base, align the side edge of Feed Solenoid Assembly and FR Base for horizontal direction, and pull slotted hale down to limit for vertical direction.

7.The difference of adjustment method between standard thickness and thin strap. 

Standard thickness or thick strap.
Without the strap, fix the hexagon head bolt at the point where the bearing contacts the feed upper shaft spring hook.

Thin strap
With the strap, fix the hexagon head bolt at the point where the bearing contacts the feed upper shaft spring hook.
